I’ve been a fan of Paul Simon since my teens, when I discovered Simon & Garfunkel’s Greatest Hits in my parent’s record collection. In fact it was on that record, via the line, ‘a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow’, that I discovered my love of words.
From there I spent years admiring Paul use of words, and was often left breathless by the imagery he could create. ‘All my words come back to me in shades of mediocrity’ (Homeward Bound) and ‘He sees angels in the architecture spinning in infinity’ (You Can Call Me Al) are just two examples.
So it was with a tad of trepidation I approached the idea of writing a piece with his song titles. But you know what? There is beauty in the titles alone. And, in the end, I really enjoyed creating the imagery in this piece.
